A company of 25 actors burst onto the stage at the Brockley Jack Theatre to make Shakespeare’s tale of a deformed tyrant truly epic. The energetic ensemble created everything they needed to tell the story with their own bodies from thrones and tables to towers and horses producing a powerful and highly physical production.

The Faction’s inaugural production received fantastic audience feedback, glowing reviews and played a series of sold out shows during its initial run.

“Brave: that’s one way to describe [this] production of Richard III. More than two dozen actors crowd the black-box theatre’s small stage to recite pretty much the entirety of Shakespeare’s early history play – major cuts are for wimps. There are no props either: when a chair is called for, the players’ bodies create the necessary illusion. Richard’s horse is a splendid human-flesh-and-bones creation, and the seething floor of crawling ghosts is a memorable image of the sort that’s only possible if you’re not averse to having a crowd on stage. This is epic physical theatre.”
