CREATING A BRAND NEW MULTILINGUAL PRODUCTION OF PERICLES BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE AND GEORGE WILKINS IN A NEW TRANSLATION BY THE COMPANY.

A TRANSNATIONAL COLLABORATION BETWEEN ARTISTS FROM GREECE, LEBANON, LIBYA, SYRIA, TURKEY AND THE UK.

THE PROJECT SO FAR...

Ambitious in scope and vision, the project has 'five' units in countries across the Mediterranean and SWANA region. Each unit contains the scenes of the play set in those countries. Directors in each of these countries will rehearse the scenes of the text set in their country. The characters from the text will be played by actors from their country of origin and the text translated accordingly. These units will be brought together in one production.

The Faction travelled to Beirut in spring 2020 with the support of the Stephen Joseph Theatre for early stage development. The UK unit partnered with the Lebanese unit under the direction of Sahar Assaf and were joined by the Syrian actor Maan Haamzeh Rafea.

 

In April 2023, the Barbican supported an Research and Development week with 12 actors and a sharing for an invited audience. Our ensemble was comprised of actors from diasporic communities in the UK who came together with Lebanese actor Fouad Yammine (Pericles).
